Before starting any lessons, you will need a provisional driving license. We cannot provide any tuition if you do not have one.
Apply for a provisional licence up to three months before your 17th birthday, and you could book your first driving lesson for the big day!
You need to be 17 to start learning to drive and have a valid provisional licence before you take your first driving lessons. Complete a D1 form from the post office and send it to the DVLA (DVLNI in Northern Ireland) with your passport or birth certificate, and a passport-sized photo. You can also apply online.
The Highway Code is your 'bible of the road'. It contains many of the do’s and do not’s of the UK road law, covering not just driving but walking and cycling too. You are expected to understand all elements of the code in order to pass your theory test and should have at least read the code before embarking upon your first lesson.
